Only Dirty Pictures, No Good Pictures in Industry
We have one 'dirty picture' that shocked the entire India before minting huge money for its makers. And, we have one 'good picture' that is unable to ring cash register though it got critical acclamation.
Recently, two films have stunned critics before making the whole theatres silent. One is Telugu movie 'Oka Romantic Crime Katha' and the other is Hindi film 'Shanghai'. While our Telugu movie lacks some narrative thrills, the Hindi film is a bit low in commercial tickles. ORCK is rated as a sleazy movie due to its adult content (more in dialogues) and grip less screenplay. Shanghai is not loved by common audience as the film is more a thriller with intense political drama. ORCK is not recovering commercially at the BO, while Shanghai will get break even after selling its satellite rights, but not through collections.
It is a rare to find directors like Sunil Reddy (ORCK) and Dibakar Banerjee (Shanghai) who execute serious issues through their sincere scripts. Lack of commercial viability might force such directors to come to an extinct.
