James Cameron Confirms ‘Avatar 2′ Won’t Be Released Until 2015 | Avatar 2 Hollywood Movie Sequel Release Date

James Cameron Confirms ‘Avatar 2′ Won’t Be Released Until 2015

Though James Cameron has stated that he will be working on nothing but Avatar sequels, there hasn’t been much development since the announcement was made. Fox had planned to release Avatar 2 in 2014, but producer John Landau stated that in addition to presenting the film using cutting edge 3D technology, they also wanted to shoot the film at 60 frames per second. An average film shoots at 24 FPS and Peter Jackson doubled the rate with The Hobbit films, which were shot at 48 FPS.

Now in an interview with the New York Times, Cameron confirmed that Avatar 2 would not be ready until at 2015 or later. This puts the film’s release a year past the one Fox had projected.

However, the interview did confirm a few things about the development of the film. For one thing, Cameron has purchased a large amount of land near Lake Pounui, New Zealand. This will probably serve as some inspiration for the director, who has stated he would like audiences to see the oceans of Pandora.

The director also said it was all but certain that Avatar 2 would be shot in Jackson’s Wellington production studio and that the visual effects will be completed by WETA Digital. The motion capture work, however, will be done on a stage in California.

So while Cameron has confirmed that the release of Avatar 2 is being pushed back to 2015, he didn’t mention anything about Sigourney Weaver’s statement about the sequels being shot back-to-back. Hopefully someone will bring it up in a later interview.

In the mean time, what do you think about the sequel being delayed until 2015?
