Hyderabad Stone Creates World Record

Hyderabad Stone Creates World Record:

For geologists it is just a stone, but for gemmologists it is a priceless gem which has now created a world record.

A flawless 76 carat diamond mined in the erstwhile Golconda Mines of Hyderabad fetched a record price of 16.9 million Euros (Rs 118 crores approx) in a university. This strawberry sized stone is famous for its colourless quality, and this price is highest for a colourless diamond. Though the buyer of the diamond was not known, earlier it is owned by Archduke Joseph August of Austria (1872-1962), a prince of the Hungarian line. Golconda mines are famous for diamonds like Koh-i-noor and Blue Hope, which are now part of British crown jewels and Smithsonian Museum respectively.

Though India cannot bring back our own stones back into its lap, it is still a moment of rejoice and celebration for Indians, especially Hyderabadis.
