President Pranab Mukherjee is said to have agreed to watch the big-ticket film Damarukam. The devotional saga tells the tale of how Lord Shiva saves the Earth through the destruction of an evil rakshasha.
The synopsis of the film was sent to the President by director Srinivas Reddy through a common friend. A staunch devotee of Goddess Kali, Mukherjee expressed interest in watching the film when he found out that Anuskha plays a divine role in it.
The President’s office has reportedly given an appointment to Srinivas for a brief chat with Mukherjee during his short stay at the Rashtrapathi Nilayam in Hyderabad. The director, who plans to trim a few songs and comic scenes from the film to highlight the main story, will make arrangements to screen the film either at Rashtrapathi Nilayam or Rashtrapathi Bhavan in New Delhi, as per the President’s convenience.
“I did send a letter to the President and felt glad that he liked the devotional storyline about Lord Shiva celebrating the victory of good over evil. But the screening is yet to be confirmed,” says the director. “It would be a great honour for our entire team,” he adds.
Incidentally, the then president of India S.D. Sharma watched Nagarjuna’s 1997 devotional film Annamayya when he heard it was about Lord Venkateswara’s disciple. It’s a happy co-incidence for Nagarjuna, who likes to experiment with his roles.
