1.15 pm: TV reports say veteran actor Rajesh Khanna has passed away.
1.10 pm: According to a TV news channel actor Rajesh Khanna is critical.
According to reports Rajesh Khanna’s son-in-law Akshay Kumar has returned from his shoots abroad.
1.00 pm: Sources say that all his family members have gathered at his Bandra house and the house has been cordoned off by police officials.
The 69-year-old actor, who was not keeping well of late, was hospitalised due to “exhaustion” and “weakness”.
When Khanna was hospitalised two weeks back, his manager Ashwin had said that the actor had stopped taking food for the last three-four days though he was at home.Rajesh Khanna’s illness was a cause of great worry to the nation and his legion of fans worldwide.
Soon after, “Kaka”, as the actor is fondly referred to in the industry, emerged at the balcony of his house ‘Aashirwad’ on Carter Road in suburban Bandra to wave at his fans and media persons. He was accompanied by his estranged wife Dimple Kapadia, and son-in-law, Akshay Kumar. He looked frail and weak, but waved to the fans gathered outside just like a superstar!
Earlier in April too, the actor had to be admitted to Lilavati Hospital after he complained of uneasiness and exhaustion.
He was hailed as India’s first superstar after 15 consecutive solo superhits between 1969 and 1972 including ‘Aradhana‘, ‘Haathi Mere Saathi‘, ‘Anand‘ and ‘Amar Prem‘. He was recently seen in his first television ad, directed by filmmaker R Balki, for Havell’s fan.
