Sekhar Kammula Packing Teluguness In Foreign Kerchief
While talking about his films and their dubbed versions, director Sekhar Kammula gave some interesting answers that give rise to serious questions. Here goes the story.
Sekhar Kammula feels that his films don't do well in other languages because they have high dose of Telugu nativity or simply Teluguness. 'My films connect to Telugu middle class audience, thanks to my cultural roots', he says. However, if he is so connected about Teluguness, then why is that he names all his movies with foreign language? Till date, he made Dollar Dreams, Anand, Godavari, Happy Days, Leader and Life Is Beautiful. While there are two nouns, rest of the film names are English words only, which are no way closer to Teluguness. Critics are saying that the software-director is packing Telugu tiffin in a foreign kerchief.
Keeping all these controversies aside, one should feel proud that Sekhar Kammula is the only director to have won awards for all his films. Let us hope he will repeat that magic with 'Life Is Beautiful' too!
