Muktha Srinivasan Counters Kamal Hassan Comments:
Producer Muktha Srinivasan (Nayakudu fame) shot back at Kamal Hassan for making negative remarks on him while sharing his experience during the filming of landmark film Nayakudu, 25 years after it its release.
"Producer Muktha Srinivasan just wanted us to make a film, in fact any film, that would ensure him a profit of Rs. 5 lakh. Films were a business for him and he wasn't interested in films as art. Mani Ratnam would have ensured that the film came out better, if the producer had cooperated with him," accused Kamal, few days back.
For which, Muktha responded,"Estimated budget of Nayakudu was Rs 60 lakhs and in that Rs 17.5 lakhs goes for Kamal's remuneration. The budget exceeded over Rs 1 crore incurring loses to me even after selling all the areas. All this happened just because of Kamal's interference and his demands. Nayakudu would have been a great film if the film was shot as per Maniratnam's original script. Kamal made changes to the Mani's script by directly copying scenes from The Godfather. After shooting for 10 days, the shooting was halted as he didn't like the output and that film got wasted. Kamal's idea of shooting at Mumbai's Dharavi, roping in Hollywood stuntmen has mounted the budget".
"Being a producer, Expecting Rs 5 lakhs as profit can't be seen as extreme greed. Filmmaking is also a business and everybody works to make money. Even Kamal didn't act in my movie for free, he was paid 20 percent of the total budget. I have nothing against Kamal Haasan taking credit for the success of Nayakudu. But not at my cost, please," he added.
In the 25th anniversary year of Nayakudu, Kamal and Muktha's accusations are surely bringing the glory of the film down. Will Maniratnam be the next person to join the fight ...
