Greta Garbo memorabilia being auctioned at sea:
Items belonging to screen legend Greta Garbo are being auctioned off at the high seas aboard the ship Queen Mary 2. The legendary actress' great-nephew Derek Reisfield is aboard the ship and will auction off the items, including a cigarette holder, an ashtray, an umbrella, scarves and a signed check made out to the New York Telephone Company.
Reisfield gave a talk aboard the ship en route here from Southampton, England, and introduced her 1936 film 'Camille' along with a preview of the items, reported New York Post. The seaborne event predates Julien's Auctions' sale in Los Angeles on December 14 and 15, where lots will include clothing and accessories designed by Valentina, Emilio Pucci, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, Lilly Dache, Hubert Givenchy and milliner Mr John, as well as photos by MGM portrait masters George Hurrell, Clarence Sinclair Bull and Ruth Harriet Louise, and furniture and art from Garbo's apartment.
In New York, Garbo had a close relationship with George Schlee, husband of the designer Valentina, when the three were neighbors at 450 E. 52nd St.
