Picture of the Year 2012!!!

A Picture Speaks Thousand Words! Making it true, the above pic shows the massive fire, smoke, shops and a man (shopkeeper) trying to put off the flames with a water pipe.

This pic was taken by a photo journalist Mandar Deodhar who works for India Today was selected as 'Picture of the Year' by the Awards jury from the total 6,500 entries sent by 200 people. The winner will be awarded a memento and the prize money of Rs 75,000 in October this year.

A massive fire broke out at South Mumbai's Sara-Sahara shopping complex and Manish Market in January. The firemen were reluctant to climb on the top of the metal rood as it was too hot and also a ricky thing to do. But, a brave shopkeeper stepped in and climbed the roof to battle the massive fire. The photo journalist captured the shopkeeper's determination to save what he can till the very last minute in his picture which eventually brought him the prestigious National Awards.
