Tollywood Box Office: Huge Rush for Sankranthi!
Sankranthi 2013 will be one of the best & toughest phases for Tollywood with as many as four biggies competing in the race.
As on Today, the makers of Mahesh Babu-Venkatesh multi-starrer SVSC, Ram charan's Nayak, Prabhas's Mirchi and Kamal Hassan's Vishwaroopam have been eyeing the Pongal season. While Nayak will be hitting the screens on January 9, the other three biggies were aiming the same date (January 11). Inspite of heavy competition, none of these stars were ready to back off and instead expressing tremendous confidence on the fate of their projects at the Box Office.
The only issue here is the theater availability! These days a film of a star hero releases in around 1000 screens to recover the investment as early as possible. With just 1600 active theaters in AP, how could all these films get sufficient screens to reach out to a wider section of audience.
Apart from the restrictions on the ticket prices, the state government has been levying huge entertainment taxes. Whereas in the neighboring state Tamilnadu, the government is permitting to increase the ticket prices for the first two weeks and also giving tax exemptions for films titled in Tamil. If AP Govt. could implement the same rules, Tollywood would get benefitted and filmmakers will be in a safe zone even if few big ticket films clash in the same season.
