Distributors safe, Producer in trouble for Damarukam!
Nagarjuna's magnum opus Damarukam caught up in the controversy due to the financial crisis, leaving a black mark in the actor's career. However, the end result is bringing smiles to many people associated with this film.
In fact, Damarukam is the highest grosser in Nag's 26 years long career with a share of over Rs 25 crores. Due to the frequent postponements of the release, distributors backed off from race to acquire the rights of the film for hefty prices. To release the film at any cost, the makers have sold the theatrical rights at low prices although the making costed a bomb. This came as a blessing in disguise for the distributors and buyers as they recovered their investment already and most of them entered into profit zone.
On the other hand, RR Movie Makers incurred a huge loss due to the astronomical budget, nominal price for rights and release issues. Firstly, the makers have miscalculated the business range of the film and secondly, failed to cash in on the festival seasons like Dussehra and Diwali. In case, if Damarukam had a smooth release it could have easily made additional Rs 5 crore in it's total run. Let's wish Damarukam effect willn't fall on the other releases coming from this big production house.
