KS Rama Rao: The Man behind Chiru's Mega Star title
The path-breaking film Abhilasha which is based on the capital punishment completed 30 years Today (March 11th, 2013). Producer KS Rama Rao reveals some interesting facts about the film and the Mega Star title of Chiranjeevi.
KS Rama Rao approached Chiranjeevi to make a film based on noted writer Yandamuri Veerendranath's novel 'Abhilasha'. The actor came to know about this novel from his mother Anjana Devi who had gone through the article published on it in Andhra Jyothi weekly magazine and immediately grabbed the opportunity. The core team include biggies like Chiranjeevi, A Kodandarami Reddy, Ilayaraja, Yandamuri, Satya Murthy (Devi Sri Prasad's father) and Satyanand (writer). The film went on to become a big hit and this combo have delivered three back-to-back hits like 'Abhilasha', 'Chanllenge' and 'Rakshasudu'.
Coming to the Mega Star title, it was KS Rama Rao who did a lot of research to coin an apt title for the stature of Chiranjeevi who was addressed as Supreme Hero and Dynamic Hero until then. The producer found the word 'Mega' interesting and Chiru too liked it very much. Right from the film 'Marana Mrudangam', the title 'Mega Star' has been appearing in the title cards of Chiru's films and the rest is history.
