No Escape From Digital Punch!!!
Ever since the digitization of films started, everyone thought that as a revolution because films could be made at low cost. But some of our ace producers felt that it will be the end of their show with digital arrival. And, now it happened!
Tollywood big-wigs like Nagarjuna, Suresh Babu and C Kalyan own happening labs in the city, which are now running into losses with no work. Earlier, the heart of post-production used to be lab with processing and printing being primary work for output. Distributors used to run around them for getting prints. All that became past glory with digital punch hitting them below the hilt. Now you don't need film in the first place, say it for shoot or for release. 80% of theatres in the state are equipped with digital and each digital-print will cost you less than 30 thousands unlike film print that is around 75K to 1 lakh.
Already top film producing companies like Agfa and Fuji have shut down, while Kodak film division will be rolling down shutters soon. With that, our top producers are also planning to lock out their labs which comes of no use except as scrap metal.
Sensing this punch, some top producers tried to control Digital Revolution by owning particular format digital printing license. QUBE, UFO and PXD are some digital formats, of which Arvind tried to get hand over UFO, but failed. With companies jumping directly into market, these producers lost control over them and now are facing punch.
