Sandalwood director R Chandru's first home production, Charminar, seems to have hit the jackpot. The film has found itself a big taker, as Chandru has been signed on to direct the film's remake in Tamil and Telugu by Tollywood producer Lagadapati Sridhar.
Chandru says, "Sridhar was the first person to watch the film once it was ready. He had spoken to me earlier after he had seen my earlier film Mylari. When I'd told him about Charminar, he was excited about remaking the film with Telugu star Nagarjuna in the lead role. He watched what we have shot last Wednesday and loved it. He immediately announced his plans of remaking the same, although with a small difference. Since the story is rather youth-centric, Sridhar feels someone like Naga Chaitanya or Karthi should be cast in the lead role."
Incidentally, Chandru has been signed on to direct both the new versions in Telugu and Tamil. Meanwhile, Charminar has been given a U certificate by the censor board, without any cuts.
